Here’s a few quick tips to keep in mind in case you are in an accident. Knowing what to do if you are in an accident helps to reduce stress and keeps you and your family safe.

First, check for injuries. Check yourself first, and then check on your fellow passengers. If there are injuries, call an ambulance immediately.

Next, secure your vehicle. Turn on your hazard flashers and pull to side of the roadway if at all possible. Do not exit the vehicle until you have determined it is safe to do so. If you have traffic cones, triangles or flares place them around your vehicle. 

Call the police. An official police report helps to establish the facts and makes any claims settlements easier.

Exchange information with the other driver(s). Do not apologize or claim fault. That is for the police and claims adjusters to sort out. Document the accident as best you can with pictures, take descriptions of vehicles involved and get the contact information of any witnesses.
